Protect Our Aquifer Programs

Water Wednesday

Catch us in your feed every week as we raise awareness about the Memphis Sand Aquifer and share information about current issues, water resources, and groundwater science.

Plus, once a quarter we’ll host a happy hour to give you a chance to connect with POA staff & featured guests.

Water Fellows

Paid fellowships for community activists interested in water advocacy. Each year, a cohort of fellows completes a 9-week training, getting a deep dive on the science and politics of our aquifer. Then, Water Fellows select aquifer issues that they care about and lead advocacy efforts in their communities.

Applications open annually in August. No prior Aquifer knowledge is required - just a passion for protecting your environment and community. Fellowships run October - June. Watch the Now Page for the latest call for applicants!

Toxic Tours

We invite community stakeholders, journalists, politicians, and people in positions of power on driving tours of contaminated sites in Shelby County. We connect with frontline community members to showcase stories of legacy pollution and empower positive action to be taken.

Join us for our next “Super-Fun Superfund Sites Tour” or “South Memphis Legacy Pollution Route,” two 3-hour driving tours that include lunch & a discussion with community stakeholders.

Recharge Zone Advocates

POA is coalition-building in East Shelby, Tipton, Fayette, and Haywood Counties to build water advocacy throughout our Aquifer’s vulnerable Recharge Zone.

To start, we've assembled a West TN H2O Delegation, a group of water stakeholders who assemble every quarter. We talk about water issues and concerns, share resources, and strategize together. We're using the TN H2O Plan, released in 2018, as our guide. If you're interest in learning more - or joining the delegation! - let us know.

Currently, were surveying residents of the Recharge Zone about their water concerns. Take our Community Water Survey at the link below!
